How to use the scanner of an HP printer

There are different options to scan with your HP printer in Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 as explained here.

Scan using the HP Solution Center

If your printer was manufactured before 2011 and you do not have Windows 10, you can use the HP Solution Center software that came with your printer that is for you to install on your computer.

Step 1:

Open the scanner lid and place what you want to scan with the side of interest facing the scanner glass. Close the lid.

Step 2:

Click on the “Start” button, select “All Programs” and open the “HP” folder. Double-click on the “HP Solution Center.” The Solution Center window will open.

Step 3:

Click on the “Scan image” button, if you want to scan an image or document that you do not need to edit. Click on the “Scan document” button if you are scanning a document that you may want to edit later, in a word processing program or similar application.

Step 4:

Select a location in which you want to save the object, such as a folder on your computer or an email application. Click on “Scan.” Select the type of file you want to save the scan, enter a name for the file, change other settings in the way you want and click “Ok”. Click “Finish” to complete the scan.

Step 1:

Step 2:

Click on the “Source” button in the Windows 10 fax and scanner application and select your HP printer as the source.

Step 3:

Click on “File type” and select in what type of file you would like the scanned article to be saved. Available options include BMP, JPG, PNG and TIF.

Step 4:

Click on the “See more” button to access advanced scanning options where you can adjust the resolution, brightness and contrast.

Step 5:

Click on the “Preview” button to see how the scan will look.

Step 6:

Click the “Scan” button to scan the item.

Step 1:

Step 2:

Click on the “Start” button. Write “photo” in the search box at the bottom of the start menu and select “Windows Live Photo Gallery” from the list of results.

Step 3:

Click on the “File” button and select “Import from a camera or scanner.” Choose your HP printer and click “Import.”

Step 4:

Select the type of file in which you will save the scan, enter a name for it and change other settings you want. Click on “Scan.” The HP scanner sends the item directly to the gallery window.

Step 1:

Open the scanner lid and place what you want to scan with the side of interest facing the scanner glass. Close the lid.

Step 2:

Click on the “Start” button and type “fax” in the search box at the bottom of the start menu. Select “Windows Fax and Scanner” from the results.

Step 3:

Click on the “New Scan” button in the application’s toolbar. Select the type of object you are scanning and click “Scan.” The HP scanner will send the file directly to the fax and scan window.
